AGRA and Strategic Partners Forge Renewed Alliance to Advance Farmer Prosperity Across Africa
KIGALI, RWANDA – 7 September 2026: The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) has entered into new partnerships with leading African and international organisations to accelerate farmer prosperity and strengthen agricultural transformation across the continent.
The agreements were formalised in Kigali as the Africa Food Systems Forum came to a close, bringing together organisations working across different areas of Africa’s agrifood systems.
The partners include TradeMark Africa, the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the African Seed Trade Association (AFSTA), the International Seed Federation (ISF), the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), the International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), and the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN).
The renewed alliance focuses on addressing three major challenges affecting agricultural transformation in Africa: low productivity, weak value creation and fragmented institutional capacity.
Speaking during a press briefing, AGRA President Alice Ruhweza called for a more coordinated approach to tackling the challenges facing Africa’s agricultural and food systems.
She said the next phase of agricultural transformation should move beyond isolated interventions and bring together governments, businesses and researchers to turn years of agricultural progress into lasting prosperity for farmers.
The partnerships cover key areas including seeds and agricultural inputs, soil health, nutrition, regional trade, private-sector development, policy coordination and institutional capacity.
Through the alliance, the partners aim to increase agricultural productivity while helping farmers and local businesses capture more value from their work. The initiative also seeks to strengthen local and national institutions so that agricultural progress can be sustained over the long term.
The Renewed Alliance will also provide an opportunity for organisations working in areas such as climate resilience, water, logistics, energy and finance to contribute to Africa’s agrifood transformation.
According to AGRA, the initiative represents a shift from developing individual parts of agricultural systems towards bringing complementary expertise together around one main goal: farmer prosperity.
Its success will ultimately be measured by whether increased productivity leads to higher farmer incomes, better employment opportunities, more affordable food and stronger institutions capable of sustaining agricultural development.
AGRA is a pan-African institution focused on scaling agricultural innovations that help small-scale farming enterprises increase their incomes, improve livelihoods and strengthen food security. Since 2006, the organisation has worked with governments, development partners, non-governmental organisations and private-sector businesses to support the transformation of Africa’s agrifood systems.
