Huye International Stadium to Reopen in Early September.

The renovation works include the installation of new artificial turf and a modern drainage system.

The stadium was initially expected to reopen after August 16, 2026, but the deadline was missed due to technical challenges, according to the Rwanda Housing Authority. 

RHA Director General Alphonse Rukaburandekwe said that although unforeseen technical issues delayed the completion of the renovation works, an agreement with the contractor was reached to ensure that all works, including the installation of the new turf, are completed in early September.

“We experienced technical challenges that caused delays in completing the renovation of Huye International Stadium, which was initially expected to be completed by August 16, 2026. However, we reached an agreement with the contractor that all the works, including the installation of the turf, will be completed in early September,” he said. 

“Once these works are completed, Huye International Stadium will be reopened and ready for use,” he added.

The temporary closure of the stadium had a significant impact on Mukura Victory Sports, particularly its finances and performance during the 2025/2026 season. 

Mukura Victory Sports Managing Director Protais Musoni said the club lost around Rwf40 million in revenue from matches it would have hosted at Huye International Stadium. 

He also said the number of fans attending the club's matches dropped significantly because Mukura was forced to play its home games at other stadiums.

“Fans who used to come to the stadium decreased by 70 percent for every match. This also affected the team’s performance in competitions because we were required to host our matches at other stadiums, where we could not benefit from the advantages of playing our home games,” Musoni said.

He added that the biggest financial loss came from the reduced revenue generated from home matches.

“Honestly, not earning enough money from the matches we hosted was the biggest loss we experienced,” he said.

Musoni said reopening Huye International Stadium will give Mukura Victory Sports a major boost, particularly by helping the club regain its supporters and increase revenue from home matches.

“Huye Stadium will give us many advantages compared with Kamena Stadium ground we were using,” he said.

He added that reopening the stadium as the 2026/2027 season begins will help the club improve its performances, bring supporters back to the stadium and increase its match-day revenue.

“Reopening this stadium as we prepare to start the new season will help us regain the team’s good performance, bring our fans back to the stadium, and increase the money we earn from the matches we host,” Musoni said.

As the 2026/2027 season approaches, Mukura Victory Sports is expected to return to Huye International Stadium for its BK Pro League home matches. The club is set to host Gasogi United in its league opener at the stadium
