AFCON 2027 Qualifiers Set to Begin Across Africa
The race to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, is set to begin on Thursday, September 24, 2026, with 48 African nations competing for places in the tournament.
The teams have been divided into 12 groups, with the opening matches scheduled between September 24 and October 6, 2026. A total of 24 matches are expected to be played during the opening rounds.
Among the fixtures attracting attention are Côte d’Ivoire against Ghana, Egypt versus Angola, Morocco against Gabon and Algeria against Zambia.
Rwanda is in Group K alongside Mali, Liberia and Cape Verde. The Amavubi will begin their qualification campaign against Liberia on September 25, 2026.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027. The three host nations have already secured places in the final tournament but will still participate in the qualification campaign.
The qualification matches will continue through different international windows, with the final rounds expected to take place in March 2027.
