Child Star Releases New Song 10 Years After “Baby Shark” Breakthrough.
A South Korean child star who became famous at just seven years old for appearing in the “Baby Shark” video has released a new song, ten years after the video that made him a household name.
Park Geonroung, who became known for the “Baby Shark” video, which holds the record as the most viewed video in YouTube history, has released a new pop song.
Park Geonroung is now 17 years old. Explaining his decision to release new music, he said, “The Baby Shark dance brought joy to many people around the world. That is why I am happy that so many people still remember me after ten years. That is what made me come back, so that I can once again create connections between people through music.”
“Baby Shark,” the song that made Park Geonroung famous, was released in 2016 and has now been viewed more than 17.2 billion times on YouTube. The song has also received attention from several prominent figures, including Tesla owner and X social media platform owner Elon Musk, as well as U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump has reportedly played the song several times in his White House office, where it has also been enjoyed by many people working with him.
Park Geonroung’s new song, titled “Wave,” begins with a sound reminiscent of the melody used in his earlier “Baby Shark” song. It then moves into an electropop style, which dominates the track and provides the setting for the lyrics of his new song.
Park Geonroung says “Wave” marks the beginning of a new chapter in his musical journey.
“It feels like Wave is a new beginning rather than just a one-off project that ends there. I hope to continue showing my own talents through music and through various other ways of delivering messages,” he said.
Park Geonroung released “Baby Shark” when he was only seven years old. The song was subsequently acquired by the South Korean company Pinkfong, which also holds the artist copyright to the song.
