The outbreak, linked to the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus, was first detected several weeks ago and has not yet been fully contained. Health officials say transmission is still occurring in certain communities, particularly in remote areas where access to healthcare and rapid response services is limited.

Medical teams on the ground are continuing to isolate patients, trace contacts, and monitor individuals who may have been exposed. Hospitals in affected areas remain under pressure as they manage both confirmed and suspected cases.

So far health officials report presumably over 600 suspected cases and more than 130 deaths ,with several areas in eastern DRC (including Ituri and North Kivu) still recording new alerts as investigations continue .

The World Health Organization and regional health ministries have maintained emergency operations, including border screening, public health messaging, and coordination between neighboring countries such as Rwanda, Uganda, and the DRC to reduce cross-border spread.

Officials emphasize that while the situation remains serious, ongoing intervention efforts are helping to slow transmission. However, they caution that the outbreak will take time to fully control.

Health authorities are urging communities to remain alert, follow official guidance, and avoid misinformation as response efforts continue across the region.
