Rwanda Revenue Authority launches new TENGAMARA na TVA initiative
The Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) has launched the new TENGAMARA na TVA initiative, aimed at encouraging consumers to request EBM receipts whenever they purchase goods or receive services, while giving them opportunities to receive part of their VAT back and win prizes.
Since the initiative began, it has contributed to the collection of more than 15 million EBM receipts, with over 1.2 million people registered to participate. Receipts generated through the initiative have accounted for more than Rwf 207.3 billion in VAT.
Under TENGAMARA na TVA, eligible consumers can receive 10% of the VAT shown on the EBM receipt they request. In addition, participants in TengaPromo have opportunities to win prizes including cash, motorcycles, cars and plots of land.
In the second quarter of 2026 alone, more than Rwf 2.4 billion was distributed as VAT rewards to eligible consumers. TengaPromo also offers prizes worth up to Rwf 70 million every month, shared among more than 1,500 winners.
RRA says the initiative is designed to encourage citizens to play a more active role in tax compliance, as requesting receipts helps authorities track business transactions and ensure that VAT is properly declared and paid.
Consumers are therefore encouraged to request an EBM receipt whenever they purchase goods or receive services, keep the receipt and participate in the TENGAMARA na TVA initiative.
