Afghan Girls to Continue Their Education in Rwanda

The school was founded in Kabul in 2016 by Shabana Basij-Rasikh, an Afghan education advocate committed to promoting education for girls. After the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, girls’ access to education faced major restrictions, prompting SOLA to move its operations to Rwanda.

Since arriving in Rwanda, SOLA has continued to provide Afghan girls with an opportunity to pursue their education at a time when many girls their age are unable to attend school in their home country. The school focuses on education that helps students expand their knowledge, build confidence and prepare for their future.

SOLA is now operating from its campus in Rwanda, where students will continue attending classes and pursuing their studies. The opening of the school in Rwanda marks an important step in helping these girls maintain access to education and opportunities to prepare for their future.

The move also highlights Rwanda’s continued role in hosting educational initiatives and providing opportunities for young people who are determined to continue their education and develop their skills.
