President Kagame and Oman Sultan Discuss New Investment Opportunities.
The President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame and Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tarik have discussed expanding investment ties between Rwanda and Oman, with mining, renewable energy, logistics and healthcare among the sectors identified for closer cooperation.
The two leaders held official talks on Monday at Al Hosn Palace in Salalah during Kagame’s two-day official visit to Oman. The discussions also covered food security and the development of land ports, as both countries seek to deepen their economic partnership.
The meeting comes as Rwanda and Oman seek to translate their growing diplomatic relationship into practical economic opportunities, particularly in areas that can attract investment and strengthen links between the two markets.
According to Oman News Agency, the talks focused on building an investment partnership that serves the interests of both countries and responds to the needs and aspirations of their populations.
Rwanda was represented at the talks by Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe, Finance and Economic Planning Minister Yusuf Murangwa, Trade and Industry Minister Antoine Kajangwe, State Minister for Agriculture and Animal Resources Solange Uwituze, Rwanda Development Board Deputy-CEO Juliana Muganza and Rwanda’s ambassador to Oman, Dan Munyuza.
Oman’s delegation included senior government officials responsible for defence, economic affairs, foreign affairs, finance, transport, energy and minerals, commerce and investment, as well as the president of the Oman Investment Authority.
The sectors placed on the agenda point to a broadening of Rwanda-Oman relations beyond traditional diplomatic cooperation. Mining and energy could open new investment opportunities, while logistics and land ports could support Rwanda’s efforts to strengthen its position as a regional trade and transport hub.
Healthcare and food security were also included among the areas for cooperation, reflecting the two countries’ interest in developing partnerships across several parts of their economies.
Kagame’s visit follows an official announcement by Oman that the September 7-8 trip is intended to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries and advance their shared interests across various fields.
The talks in Salalah are therefore expected to add momentum to efforts by Rwanda and Oman to expand trade, investment and economic cooperation.
